The first etude uses simple rhythmic cells of varying lengths in various combinations. The second uses soft clusters in four- and five-based duration units. The third explores Arvo Part's "tintinnabulation" technique and an additive toccata texture. The fourth explores phasing technique, although it does not require "flux" between phases as in Reich's music. The fifth is a performance etude, using varying techniques and exploiting the entire range of the piano.
